Grounds
With Mt Tauhara as part of the wider landscape and beautiful views across Lake Taupō, our grounds offer a peaceful place to walk, reflect and reconnect with nature. Explore the bush tracks, enjoy moments of solitude, and take in the scenic outlooks across Acacia Bay and the lake.
The Sanctuary
The Sanctuary is open for silent meditation each day 9.30am to 3pm, when the front gates are open, but sometimes is unavailable when retreats requiring privacy have full use of the Centre. Please contact the Centre if you are coming to visit, to ensure the Sanctuary is open.
Meeting Rooms
Within our beautiful buildings, we can receive over 200 daily guests.
We have many different type of spaces available, from which a dining room, common room (lounge), hall and the meeting room are a few examples.
Library
Our Library is often used for browsing or study by group participants during their stay. It is also open for casual and local visitors.
The collection of books reflects the very diverse nature of all the courses, retreats and gatherings that have occurred at Tauhara over its first 50 years. All the books are donated and have been lovingly added to the collection by our volunteer librarians. We welcome donations of books in excellent condition and ask donors to agree to our handing on any titles that we might have already, or we do not feel would fit easily into the collection guidelines we follow.
Catering
Tauhara staff take pride in offering healthy, nutritious meals that are prepared with love.
Healthy, nutritious meals
Tauhara’s kitchen has a long history of offering fresh, often organic and vegetarian cuisine, with much of the fruit and vegetables grown on-site in the Centre’s own organic gardens.
Menu options
We are always happy to provide a range of menu options to suit you and your group. A full daily menu can be provided, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and morning and afternoon tea. Other options, including self-catering, can be discussed with the Centre team. Meals are generally served buffet style.
Special Diet Requests
Gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, wheat-free and other diet restrictions are catered for if the request is made in advance. There is a small surcharge for gluten-free and vegan diets, to allow for alternative ingredients.
Tauhara Cookbook
Many of the delicious dishes that you will enjoy during your visit have been published in the Centre’s much-reprinted recipe book, From Tauhara’s kitchen. The book includes wholesome vegetarian recipes from New Zealand, compiled by Catherine Grace who is a Trustee, during her years as Kitchen Co-ordinator. Copies are available from the office for $30 while you are visiting the Centre or $45 including postage and packing by mail order.
